Getting Started with MC2D
New to MC2D? Follow our step-by-step guide to run your first simulation in under 10 minutes. Perfect for beginners and experienced risk assessors alike.
10-Minute Quick Start Guide
Launch the Live Demo
No setup needed. Simply click the link below to open the live MC2D Simulator in a new browser tab. The application loads immediately—you can start interacting right away.
🌐 Live Demo Link:
Load a Template
Go to Monte Carlo Model Setup tab and select "Salmonella in Whole Chickens" from the template dropdown. Click "Load Template" to import a complete working model.
🎯 Recommended:
Start with the Salmonella template - it has the most comprehensive examples.
Explore the Model Structure
Navigate to Process Configuration tab. Examine:
- Process List: Different stages from retail to consumption
- Calculation List: Formulas and distributions used
- Process Flow: Visual diagram of the model
Use "Validate Formula" to check syntax of any calculation.
Configure & Run Simulation
Go to Simulation Control tab:
- Set iterations: 100 variability (nsv), 10 uncertainty (nsu)
- Use random seed: 12345 for reproducible results
- Click "Validate Model" to check for issues
- Click "Run MC Simulation" to execute
Progress bar shows completion. Wait for "Simulation completed successfully!" message.
Analyze Results
Navigate to Basic Results tab:
- Overview: Summary statistics and value boxes
- Distribution Analysis: Histograms, density plots
- Comparative Analysis: Compare multiple outputs
- Statistical Summary: Detailed statistics table
For advanced analysis, go to Advanced Analysis tab.
🎉 Congratulations!
You've successfully run your first 2D Monte Carlo simulation! The template model shows you the complete workflow. Now you can:
Frequently Asked Questions
❓ Do I need to install R on my computer?
MC2D Demo version is completely web-based. The application runs on our servers. You only need a modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) with JavaScript enabled. However, if you would like to run the full program, you will have to install R in your own computer and run the MC2D Simulator program.
❓ What are the limitations of the free version?
The free version allows up to 5 processes per model and 1000 total iterations (nsv × nsu). It includes basic distribution fitting and pre-built templates. Advanced features like parallel processing, sensitivity analysis, and full report generation require a premium license.
❓ Can I use MC2D for regulatory submissions?
Yes! MC2D is designed to produce transparent, defensible risk assessments suitable for regulatory submissions. The clear separation of variability and uncertainty, comprehensive documentation, and audit trail make it ideal for regulatory compliance.
❓ How does the floating license work?
Floating licenses are network-based licenses that allow a fixed number of concurrent users from your organization. For example, a 5-user floating license allows any 5 people in your organization to use MC2D simultaneously.
❓ Is my data secure and private?
Absolutely. Your data never leaves your browser during simulations in the demo version. All calculations happen locally in your browser session. We don't store your models or data on our servers unless you explicitly choose to save them (optional). For real program, You will need to download and run in your own computer, so the data safely stays in your own computer only.
